Picture of Salt & Pepper Shakers

Assuming your shaker isn't transparent and isn't labeled, which shaker gets the salt and which gets the pepper?

If you live in the U.S., apparently, you're supposed to put your pepper in the one with more holes because it's harder for the pepper to come out. However, when I looked it up many different people are divided on the issue.

I've never heard of putting pepper in the one with more holes, and I'm not about to change any of mine, but it makes sense. North Americans eat FAR too much salt.

I have always put my pepper in the one with more holes. I thought it was because a little salt goes a long way and you use more of the pepper to season.

Love, love, love these things: OXO salt and pepper grinders. Highly recommend!

Search for it on Amazon "OXO Good Grips Salt and Pepper Grinder Set "

You can also adjust the size of the grind from small to coarse for both salt and pepper.

I haven't used shakers for years - currently I'm using the Kirkland salt and pepper grinders from Costco.

I do not use salt/pepper shakers. I have a pepper grinder that sits on the table with our meals. Tried to eliminate the habit of our family of adding extra salt to our meals . But I remember growing up when sitting at mothers dinner table each of us had a mini salt shaker made out of ceramic.

Pepper should come from a grinder and not a shaker.

I have a pepper shaker, but use it so rarely that I might as well toss it and stick with the saltshaker.

We too don't use shakers. Family is fine with the way I season foods. If guests come ever, I put the salt cellar and pepper grinder on the table.

Interesting that you are supposed put in pepper in the one with more holes. All the labeled or colored ones for pepper only have one hole while the ones for salt had more.

Yeah, they're even labeled "P" and have only one or two holes while the one labelled "S" has many more holes. Hmmm.
