Paint question: Is Linen white from different manufacturers the same color? (Valspar, colors)

We're buying an old house that hasn't been painted for a while and want to do some of the rooms in Linen White. Yes I know it's boring but last year when I wanted to touch up a color I picked 15 years ago it was frustrating to find that it was discontinued.

Just wondering, looking at all of the odd "creative" names on the paint sample cards, how they come up with these names?
And would Linen white from Benjamin Moore be the same color as Valspar or Behr? Or can a manufacturer just take any off-white and call it Linen white? Actually I just looked at the Valspar site and can't even find a linen white there.

The simple answer-
No.

The more detailed answer is long, boring, and not interesting at all. Lets just say it has to do with "base formulas".

Yes.
Manufacturers can name their colors anything they want.
Some are quite creative and odd!
(Like my living room walls: BM Spoonful of Sugar)

There is another factor that you need to consider regardless of whether the colors are identical or not. Let's be for real here. There are factors like, sunlight, grease, grime, etc. If, you had the same company linen white and "touched up" the paint after 15 years, it still would not match. Crap, repaint the whole room already.
