We have navy walls in our living room and we are in need of an area rug. The floors are oak. Our sofa is espresso. So, we need a contrasting color for the rug, accent pillows and curtains. What are your thoughts?

Would taupe or white work?
Is the sofa a solid color or a print?

I would go for something light, given that it sounds like you have dark walls and a dark couch already. What is your style (traditional, transitional, modern, country)? Depending on that you could use a lighter beige, gray, yellow or something with a pattern incorporating several colors.

You definitely need a pattern, and I'd personally go with one that had some rich oranges and golds in it as well as navy and brown. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Post pictures!

So many options! For a contemporary graphic look, Kelly green geometric. For a soothing look, spa blue accents with a natural fiber rug. For a classic look, neutrals like camel and cream. For an eclectic collected look, a red Persian rug with batik or ikat pillows.
