New user here but recently moved into a home with beautiful lightly stained and sealed hardwood floors. I came across a recipe to clean floors that includes dish soap, vinegar and baking soda in water, I am not sure if any of those things are okay to use would hate to do any damage to the shine. Any ideas?? I just want to maintaine the shine and clean it without harsh chemicals!

Every hardwood flooring experience I've spoken with over the past 6 years has said that the ONLY product they recommend is Bona. That's because it A) actually cleans and B) without buildup that gums up the process later when the "sealant" wears though. Do everything right and they can simply buff the floors and reseal. Do it wrong and they have to Sand the floors. Difference of about $2 sq/ft for my 2000sq/ft home.

^^^^^^This. Have hard wood my entire married life and this is all I ever used. Now my mom on the other hand would use Johnsons paste wax twice per year on her hands and knees. Her floors were spectacular the day she died, almost 55 years in the house. I do not have her energy to get down on my hands and knees however!!!

I have never heard of mixing soap with vinegar and baking soda for cleaning anything, you can use vinegar on its own or dilute to 10% with water. I have used vinegar + water in a spray bottle on my floors without a problem.

Typically, I use Bruce as that is what was recommended by the manufacturer. I just spray it onto the floors then follow up with a dry mob or towel, I do not let it sit. Been doing this for years and the flooring still looks great.

My hardwood floors are not "sealed", though.

We recently had 5 rooms of engineered, polyurethane coated dark hardwood put into our home. The instructions, as well as the installer, all told me to dust mop or vacuum frequently and use the Bona Cleaner once a week. It seems to be working very well and the floors look beautiful.

I do think it's interesting that Bona has no smell and no color. Sometimes I wonder if it is just filtered water in a spray bottle for which they charge $6. I don't see the ingredients listed anywhere. It does seem to do a good job, however!
