Additional details:
Door will go into a wall where there is a window right now. Wall (single story) where we have the window is approx 5 ft tall by 7 ft wide. We are thinking of removing the window, expand the opening to 10 ft and install a french door with sidelights.
Anybody has a ballpark idea on costs. This is in Seattle USA

Any insights will be helpful

I did one myself for under $500, but the opening remained the same so no framing change was needed. If you open it up larger it requires a new header and a permit, so with a contractor and the extra materials cost I would say at least $1,500, possibly more depending on the cost of the door and the permit/inspection fees.

Lets see,
3/0DH Exterior French door unit w/(2) 2/0 sidelites.
12' LVL
A few 2X4's for jacks, squash blocks, and a temporary wall
Sill pan
Siding
Drywall
Interior trim
Paint, caulk
Spray foam Insulation
Re-routing of wires, moving receptacle(s), adding switch, and exterior light
Pour a 3X6 landing pad, or build a deck/porch with steps to ground and a 3X3 concrete pad- this is a code requirement for any exterior entry door.

Then there's the permit, at least one reinspection fee, labor, profit, and an additional 20% because you got quoted less than what the job actually cost.

About $5k. That's having someone do everything- obviously you can cut cost performing some of these activities yourself. Then you have to take in "your time" to the equation, and the time period in which you want it done.
