This. I can't even look at designing that space with the current red walls. It's so dark in there. If you paint the area the same lighter color throughout, I think it will seem like the windows are letting more natural light in.

Honestly, I wouldn't move the dining area to where you are proposing. I think it looks to crowded and it's carpet to boot. How many people in your family - if it's less than four I'd stick with the original dining area.
