I would like some advice and suggestions on how to decoratively display a horse whip.
The whip was gifted to me by a student for the end of the summer semester. It is from Kyrgyzstan, but are commonly sold as souvenirs/tourist presents in the Central Asian region. Attached is a picture of the whip. It measures almost 37" (94 cm) in length and is beige, with a tough cord, decorative flap, and attached goat foot. The handle also has a leather loop. Whether it's real or fake is beyond me, but I don't care to ascertain.
I have absolutely no idea how to nicely display this gift, and I would like to do it tastefully. Originally I wanted to place it in a glass display case, then I entertained the idea of hanging it on the wall with nails, as if it were "glued" to it. I am in no way a decorative or artistically-inclined person so I appreciate your creative input.
I agree to put a nail in the wall and hang it vertically. However you need something related to it to make an interesting vignette. Either something horsey or tribal or Asian or primitive to give it some focus. By itself it will not hold the importance you wish to give it. Cool gift!
I'd roll it into a loose circle and hang it from a decorative hook, knob, or nail. And as suggested, I would add a piece of related artwork (or photo of the region it's from, etc.) next to it.
