I want to Buy Rugs for my New Home. (colors, photos, Home Depot)

Hello Every One!

I want to buy Persian Rugs for my new home. I am confused where should i buy them. I have selected 3 online stores to buy them but need your suggestions which one from the following is best?

- Ebay
- ALRUG
- Overstock

I wouldn't use any of those sources. Go to a store and actually look at them and touch/feel them. You cannot get any kind of an idea of quality (or true colors) with an online photo. Macy's is a good source (in the stores that carry furniture) since they deliver and with a Macy's charge can save even more when they have certain sales events, which occur often.

Stay away from overstock. Their wool rugs are horrible. After 3 years they still shred like crazy, it's a nightmare! And they DELETE negative comments! Don't trust them!

Try any local HomeGoods store, they do have some good quality rugs for great prices.

You cannot confidently buy a rug online. You have to REALLY REALLY know what you're doing to buy from eBay, too. About the product AND the seller and the eBay policies etc.

IE - if you go to buy a purse and see photos of the front, back, left side, right side, inside front, inside back but no inside SIDE...you can BET MONEY that there will be a stain on those inside sides the tricky seller didn't bother to show LOL.

Yes Macy's and Homegoods are good choices with a wide price variety. Especially the delivery part. Since I live on the second floor!

I agree about Homegoods. They have many choices and prices are great. Also try Tuesday Morning.

I bought a small oriental print rug from Home Depot on-line. Not bad. It's holding up well (has some traffic) and still looks good. It's not the quality you'd get in a high end store, but it does the job.

I'm totally with kyle. It is not possible to learn much at all about Persians or other fine oriental rugs online.

Here in Dallas I have bought from International Rugs Dallas TX and they do have a website. Comparing the photos online to the same rug IRL is a total disconnect; there is so much more to experience when you have the rug in your hands!

Where in Florida do you live? There's a store called "Rugs As Art" in Sarasota and Port Charlotte I think is nice. Many furniture stores also carry area rugs. The suggestions for Home Depot and Home Goods are also good. It really depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend. You can spend $200 or $5,000 for a rug. I've seen some nice rugs in department stores like Kohl's.

I do agree it's best to see it in person.

Do you want real or fake orientals, or doesn't it matter? Fake ones are machine made and available at the above general and furniture stores. Real ones are hand made and sold at stores that only deal in them. The later are a lot more expensive but they hold their value if that is important to you. Many of the machine made ones are beautiful just not collector items.

If you're doing this as a collector for investment purposes you need to do a little studying up and talk to a specialist, basically a broker, that only sells orientals. You may have to do some driving depending on where you live. The country and area they're made in can make a difference in the price, how fine the weave is on the back, the colors, pattern, and type of thread (silk vs wool). You'll get a lot less rug for the money than the ones available at a furniture store. It's akin to collecting art.

If you want to pay $300. for a rug (which, sometimes I do) there is nothing wrong with Overstock. Of course they will shed. If you want to pay $3000. or $30,000. then that's another story.

I think I just saw that Home Decorators had a new line of more upscale Orientals that have that nice, worn look to them, but they are much more pricy than the usual.
