Hi all,
I'm trying to finish decorating our living room. We have a brown sofa and a brown love seat in there. The brown is a dark chocolate brown (microfiber). Our coffee table and tv console is also a brown of similar color...maybe a little lighter. I'm trying to make the room pop a little with some color. Right now it looks dark and needs something to liven it up. Does anyone suggest a color to use to help brighten the room up? I was thinking some blues, beiges and yellows?

Any advice would be great.
Also the walls are a beige/gray color.

Thanks!

I can't think of any color that doesn't go with brown. Why don't you go crazy with some throw pillows? Go to a store with a good selection, like Home Goods or Pier One, and buy about 6-8 pillows you love, without regard to whether they go with the sofa, or with each other. Just buy them if you like them. Come home and move them around. I bet you will find a color combination or pattern you like, and from there you can build on it. Any that don't work, return to the store.

just my opinion based on what I like: yes for light blue plus off white; no for yellow; no for most greens; maybe yes for a tiny bit of orange

Brown is a neutral color and can go with anything.

Look to your artwork or other decorative items for inspiration.

This color combo is very hot right now so finding accent pieces should be pretty easy

Buy an area rug you love & go from there for accent colors. A rug grounds a room. And go buy a piece of art, even an inexpensive framed print will add needed dimension.

Brown goes with everything.

Do you like jewel tones?--get an oriental style rug. Mid century modern?--light blue & light green circles geometrics. Country?--a braided rug or rag rug. Beachy coastal?-- a sisal rug.

I would go with a deep moss green and rich claret red.

Put your favorite color in there. I can't think what wouldn't look good with brown, except black or more brown.

Put some great art on the walls. Yes to throw pillows. A bright rug underfoot. A few pieces of bright glass or smooth pottery or bright colored baskets. Find things that you love and add them.

You could also add a different colored chair to the mix.

And get as much light as you can in there too.

Anything! What are your favorite colors?

I have a chocolate brown couch and my pillows are orange, red and tan.

My rug under the couch is beige (needed a cheap replacement ASAP) but the rug under the dining room table, which is almost adjacent to it, has red stripes.

It looks fine but since I don't love red I don't LOVE it.

We have a rug in our living room that has a lot of colors in it. I pull out various colors throughout the year. Right now (fall) I am focusing on orange and deep blue. In the winter I go with brown, winter white, and a moss green. In the spring I go with green and cobalt blue. In the summer I go with cobalt blue and orange and white. I change out the pillows, throws, mantel stuff and the big picture over the sofa (in the late fall and winter through April I have a big painting of a bare tree there).
