I enjoy decorating & like our home to look up-to-date & "stylish." I have 5 windows in the room I'm decorating, so pitching them out is not really an option. We've only lived here a year, so there is still lots to do.
From the above posts, it seems cellular shades are not in style. I do plan to put up a valance and a drapery at each end of the bank of windows. So those would add a bit of pizazz to the overall look.
We have a nice view and I hesitate to block any of it with 2" blinds or Roman shades. The cellular would be able to be drawn completely up and not block any of the view.
Thanks for your comments.

When we had the guy who sells Hunter Douglas window treatments out, he did show us cellular shades, and I remember that they come in several different forms. I recommend having a look at Home Depot or Lowes to see what they have displayed. And here is a link for you: hunter douglas cellular shades Choose images and you will see lots of styles and colors.
I don't think they are trending or trendy, but the seem to have found a place in many homes. I do agree that if the cellulars would work, then I don't know why you wouldn't want to buy them.
I also think that you can find them at many price points.
I just added cellular shades to the home I sold last year. They were cheapies from Target. They were clean, low key and filtered in the light nicely. The new home owners kept them too so obviously they're not garish nor out of style.

As a new homeowner who just went through sticker shock while shopping for window coverings I would say the new homeowners kept them because they were already there and...free....lol. no really, i have cellular shades as well, the off the shelf kind and i think they look fine.
We have a full wall of adjacent windows which need shades or blinds. I think the cellular shades would fit well in the individual windows' recessed area.

If you like them, and they will work in your windows, then does it really matter?

Strictly speaking, I'd say they are not "in style" -- as in, you don't see decorating and style magazines featuring them in their room renovations. What you usually see these days, if shades are used, are the "solar" type of shades -- flat shades that are slightly see-through. I used the pleated shades in my bedroom on a slider because (a) they came in standard sizes so I didn't have to get custom-made shades, (b) they provided more privacy than solar shades, and (c) I have them covered with linen-y window panel curtains.
For a long time, I've been in a mode of fixing up houses to sell eventually, so I've-always focused on making the house look as updated as possible. Perhaps we'll stay here, maybe not. Houses in this neighborhood sell really quickly, especially if they are updated.

fwiw, I don't think I'd say that drapery with a valance is particularly stylish these days either. I see mostly draperies on a visible decorative rod or non-drapery window treatments in design magazines.

Yes, valances look dated to me. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have one if you want one, but I don't think it is an on trend look.
