It's looking like shades either come 'standard' in terms of letting light through or 'pitch black'.

I always thought there were options in the middle so it's 'lots of light, some light, almost no light'.

What's the skinny for someone wanting to be in the middle?

Some of the premium brands have more options than 1% or 100%, there's also multi-material solutions like Hunter Douglas Duolite.

We had plenty of options when we had the Hunter Douglas rep out to help us choose our window coverings.

There should also be options at Lowes. At least I see lots of demo shades there when I visit.
