My new (to me) house has light (almost maple-like stain) wood trims, baseboards, doors, windows and everything in between.

Existing wood trims are very thin and very basic. interior doors are all plane looking, without any panels.

I like the clean, crisp look of white trims and doors, so I'm looking into changing them.

Problem is the windows and patio doors.

QUESTION:

If I put white window casing/molding around maple-stained windows and patio doors... will it look weird?

I will upload some pictures later today.

Jason

Painted jambs/casing with stained sashes is actually quite common today. Depending on the color of the paint, it can be very pleasant.

An example-
Clear stained wood window sash and painted window trim provides simple detail. - Traditional - Bedroom - other metro - by James Hill Architect, AIA

YES!! my window sashes is very similar to the picture on this link. Mine is actually a little bit lighter in tone - almost maple or birch like tint. This look pretty good!!!

Is your house MCM by any chance?

Natural stain (especially birch) with slab (not paneled) doors was very common in the 1950s.

Hm. No. it's built in 1994.
May be the original owner spec'd it out with natural stain + slab door interior.
I priced it out - it's going to cost me over $5000 to redo all the interior doors and casing and moldings.

You can sand and restrain or paint the trim.

It somehow depends on the environment of colors.

I think you should try for once. Can't imagine anything weird with this.
