My wife and I whiffed on our first area rug purchase. We love the rug but it just doesn't work with our dog. The rug is a wool rug and it is yellow and white. So, we are about to purchase a new one. We are thinking something darker and indoor/outdoor. Does that sound like it will work?

Made of jute or sisal? Those are made for both indoor/outdoor use... I'm just not sure if the fibres could withstand a lot of claw wear from dogs, though.

My dog rugs are dark, highly patterned and wool, but I also like olefin and polypropylene indoor/outdoor rugs that you can easily hose off. Smaller wool rugs can actually be washed with a tiny bit of woolite but you need a place outside to dry them. Jute and sisal would not work in my opinion as they are grass rugs not meant for outdoor use except in the desert.

I have an indoor/outdoor rug that I bought from Pottery Barn. It is a "kilim" (I used the "" as I am sure it is not authentic kilim) that is awesome. First the colors are great for hiding dog hair and dirt, but best of all, you can hose the thing off! I have carpet throughout my current house, but once I replace the flooring on my main level, I will definitely use this rug (or similar) again. It looks great and is so easy to clean.

I have an indoor/outdoor rug in my kitchen now. I love it! It gets a lot of traffic since it is in the cooking triangle along with close to the dog's eating area. When it get very dirty, I take it outside and scrub the stains then hose it off!

I bought a polypropylene indoor/outdoor rug that looks like sisal. We have two big dogs, and it works really well.
No snags, just wipe it off or hose it off outside. Easy-peasy.

Most synthetic rugs, even the soft ones that look like wool and are specifically for indoors, can be taken outside and literally hosed down and allowed to air dry.

For us our worry is cleaning up after muddy paws. We do our best to clean his paws when he comes in but sometimes our kids let our dog in and next them you know we have paw prints everywhere.
