This is a nice idea, so organized and it looks very attractive.. I envy people whose linen closets look like that. I only wish I could do something like this. but it's only good for people who know how to fold a sheet.
I've been folding sheets for over 40 years.. I still can't get them flat. I use the fold, roll, toss in the closet and hope to God they don't fall off the shelf system.

It ain't pretty.

I hate closet doors. I took the ones in my bedroom off "temporarily" 6 years ago when one door slipped off the track. I really like how open things are and how I can see ALL MY STUFF! I'm forced to keep things fairly neat and organized so it doesn't depress me to look at. Is it always perfect? NO! But it's always better than it would be if I could easily hide my shame behind a door! I even hung artwork on the back of the closet wall above a dresser I put in there. The top shelf has some pretty to look at stuff too.

One of these days I might take then off the linen closet too. Nicely folded towels and linens would be nice to look at...

I have another small linen closet upstairs that also has no door. I think I am going to leave that open, as it can be arranged with nice looking towels and linens. It is only as deep as a folded towel, so that will make it easier to keep neat. But the linen closet downstairs needs to be closed. I store blankets in plastic cases (the ones they come in) and pillows, etc. are not that attractive, so I think its best to close it.

Shut the damn door. Problem solved.

I like the shelf idea the best. Put nice shelves in there and keep things in nice matched baskets. Or you could slip a nice chest of drawers in the space.

I would not put a washer and dryer there unless I could find a door to close it off.

I think the curtain idea would be the last resort for me.

I vote for a curtain. I also saw some sturdier bamboo curtains at Pier one.
