My house has very large windows in the family and dining rooms. They extend from nearly the ceiling to all the way to the floor. The lower one third slides up like a conventional window to let in air. I am looking for input and ideas as to how to cover just the lower third with some type of privacy screen that can be quicly rolled up or removed. I have curtains now but would like something to cover just the lower one third ofmthe windows for additional privacy while being able to have the curtains open if that makes any sense

Plantation Shutters? They will also add beauty to the windows...
Or this type of cellular shades:

What about the top down, bottom up blinds or shades?

I have thought of this but I cannot get beyond how strange it looks to have blinds coming up from the bottom.....it looks backwards to me.

Aura Top Down Bottom Up Cordless Cellular Shades - Window Blind Outlet

Shades are what I would use.

I think you do not need drapes with handsome shades like these.

Have you considered cafe curtains inside the opening?

I would love to see a picture of your windows. They sound great. What is your style of furnishings? Modern, eclectic, country? Both these would help me finding something you would like.

How about a tension rod with a sheer on the lower half of the window?
I have 2 sidelights next to the front door. There is a sheer on each one, with a tension rod at the top and bottom. If I want to have privacy, I leave the window totally covered. If I want to see out, or let in more light, I can lower the top down to halfway. That is, I can adjust it to cover as much or as little as I want.
