Here is my question. My family has just decided to rent an apartment and yes it has popcorn ceiling; in the hallway from the entryway up the stairs. In the living room but not the kitchen. Here is my question and I need some help deciding what to do.
We haven't moved in yet, but have signed the lease, have the keys, etc. etc. so we are committed. In the living room today at the walk through I noticed the ceiling fan, a small area, maybe an inch or so looks like it is just sheet rock. The manager said that the original fan was larger/heavier and they replaced it (not recently). There is a crack maybe two inches long, coming from the opening for the ceiling fan, right there.
I talked with the manager about this. She said that the maintenance guy could spray some stuff, like caulking, but it looks like the same material as the popcorn ceiling around the fan, but really she said she wouldn't worry about it, but if I wanted her to have that done, she would be more than willing to contact the maintenance man for this repair. The carpets have already been cleaned. She said that he would put down a drop cloth but she didn't imagine anything going down from the ceiling because it is just shooting some caulk like substance that would match it so it would look better. And just in that area too. We wouldn't be there when he does this work.
Does anyone have an opinion? Caulking material for this is safe? Drop cloth is enough? Could that fan be a potential problem. Leave it alone, like my fiancee says or fix it like I am inclined to do, but I do not want to make it worse.
I would appreciate any kind words you have to say on this matter. Oh, I forgot to add the age of the property. I think that the manager said it was built in 1978, but I'm not sure on this.
