We have a hope chest that we keep ours in. Just before we go to bed, we fold it up and put it away. We've been holding out trying to find an antique blanket ladder to put them on.
No blankets necessary. We're finally at the weather where the AC is off half the day. In another month or so it'll be off full time. Maybe, just maybe, it'll get cool enough to turn on the heat.
A large basket by the sofa keeps the 3 throws for upstairs TV/living room. Downstairs I keep one throw on the back of a chair....my cold-natured friend always sits in that chair when she visits.
Red fleece blanket, folded into thirds and draped over the ottoman so it's within easy reach. We also have a couple of other blankets folded and stashed on a nearby closet shelf.
In the evenings, my husband and I nearly always snuggle up with one each. But when we get up and go to bed, I always turn the lights off, pick up anything out of place, and put the afghans back in the storage ottoman.
I do have one really beautiful throw that is draped across that storage ottoman most of the time. I love looking at it better than I like curling up with it, even though it's really comfortable. But we usually just pull one out of the storage ottoman.
I keep afghans and blankets where I use them - on the back of the couch or chair, or folded up on the ottoman. I try not to worry too much about trivial things like this. I'm just happy if they're not puddled on the floor, with a cat or two curled up on them.

Mine are either in use, or are folded up and dumped into a big basket on the hearth.
