I too despise vehicle blinds.

We are looking at replacing our existing slider with one that has the blinds between the panes.

I've also recently seen that there are plantation style shutters specifically for sliding doors:

Rolling Shutters For Glass Sliding Doors

That might work as well.

Ditto me too and I live the rolling shutter idea.

You can buy paints that are made for painting glass, or you can get sliding doors with opaque panels instead of glass.

^^^ Rebecca jumped right on that one!

What hours do you sleep? If you can sleep with the pups trotting around... You may be able to adjust to a little light. I'm not a vertical blinds girl, though we have them - came with the house.

Or maybe insulated drapes could be elegant and they can be slid all the way to one side?

Or there's this: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/sto...FRMHhgodrd4JLw

Since you are having the house built, I would have french doors instead. We have sliding glass doors, 2 Eight footers and one 6 foot along a whole wall. The room is a sun room or an Arizona room facing South. The house was already built with them and replacing them with something else was too expensive at the time. We do have custom verticals and they were NOT cheap or motel looking but have served the purpose of keeping the sun out. Pella ( and perhaps others ) is the company that makes the mini blinds in between the panes of glass. I always wondered about little bugs getting in there?

I've had French Doors with in-between-the-glass mini-blinds for 9 years. No bugs at all.

Ugh. The built-in mini-blinds are still mini-blinds. Mini-blinds are soooo 80's.
