We have been looking for a 72" wide simple desk for our in home office for months. It's tough to find a surface without grooves/cracks that isn't break the bank and looks nice. IKEA has a great option that is dark brown. It is actually a dining room table. It will cost $400 though. We are still looking. I will post what we picked.
I would take 2 file cabinets and go to home depot or lowes they have formica counter tops that look like granite get the size you want and just put the counter top on the file cabinets, it will look nice and its cheaper than buying a big desk.
I bought a work bench at home depot for the husband for Christmas. He's going to use it in the garage but lots of the reviews on the benches I looked at were using them for home offices. Home Dept has a nice maple butcher block workbench top for $239- ; might be a good option over two small file cabinets.
So, I got the one from Amazon and whilst the top desk is heavy, its pretty good.
I had to drill a little more deep into a couple of the holes but other than that, it was straight forward. It works
Now to get some desk draw cabinets without it costing an arm and a leg....
Rather than piecing it together bit by bit PLUS shipping costs, you could just take the same amount of money and go to a local office supply store to have them get the exact piece you need.
They all sell the same brand that made the desk you bought.
