Ditto on the yellow backsplash/wall color. Easiest change to make, and easiest to change again if you're dissatisfied. Just be sure, if you're doing yellow, to prime behind it and to sample test the yellow you pick before you paint the whole thing. Yellows are notorious for being "too" something between picking the paint chip and seeing it on your wall in your lighting.

Painting those cabinets would really perk up the room. A color like Dove White from Benjamin Moore--white but not a bright white and then a nice complimentary color on the walls would make that a whole new kitchen. Your counters and flooring are fine, just not quite the right colors to go with those golden oak cabinets.
I take it back on the yellow. Apple green or a mid-range turquoise blue will really make everything pop.
Heck, get a few pieces of construction paper in different shades you like at the craft store and tape them up to see what you sings to you! You can do a lot of experimenting that way for less than $5.

What color were you thinking about the walls. I was thinking some type of grey tile.

White cabinets with turquoise blue backsplash? Very interesting!
How much painting experience do you have? I have seen people make a hash out of painting cabinets? If you insist on total DIY, use chalk paint because it is hard to goof up. Use the exact same color in the uppers as whatever wall color you choose. You want them to blend into the wall. And paint base cabinets a much much darker version of that color.
If it were my project to paint I would use a semi gloss latex and paint the cabinet boxes myself...and take the doors to an automotive body shop & have them spray paint them for a flawless finish.
