We have about 500 shiny gold doorknobs and I'm not changing them!

Maybe shiny gold will come back at some point?

I know, we have a lot of those too. We have replaced a few rooms with pewter, like the bathrooms.

LOL I can almost promise you that polished brass will come back in style. When? I don't know.

We have a lot of shiny brass doorknobs too, as well as shiny brass fixtures, trim in the bathroom, etc. We've been slowly working through the house replacing them but it's a long process! We did manage to get it all out of the master bath, the powder room, the master bedroom, and the kitchen. Whew! Only two more bedrooms, the living room, the dining room, and the office to go!

I have seen the trend in jewelry too....for awhile, there was NO (yellow) gold jewelry, now it's all over the place. I even bought a watch in that new subdued gold....just looked new and fresh.

However, I think the gold hardware and lighting fixtures are going to take awhile to catch fire....people are still traumatized by the shiny brass 80's look. And changing out all that stuff is more expensive than buying a pair of earrings.

They did bright brass in the MidMod house on Fixer Upper, but I didn't like it. If it's trending back, I'm not there yet. If it has a patina, then I'm ok with it.

What about spray painting the hardware?

I really, REALLY dislike it. Every design show I see that uses it (and they all seem to be doing it), I go, "blech!" It usually ruins the whole effect for me.

My neighbor spray painted all the door knobs in her house bronze. They looked really nice. I'd like to know how they are holding up, though.

The problem with spray painting the knobs, assuming the paint takes, is that you're often covering up a certain style with a color that doesn't jive.

Like my doorknobs are just classic, basic, gold doorknobs. I can paint them to be oil-rubbed bronze but the shape would still not match. Replacing is a better idea but obviously pricier

I also feel this way about painting random kitchen cabinets white. Sometimes it looks ok, but sometimes the style of the cabinet doesn't go great with the white and I can see from a mile away they are painted
