Saw this during a layover connection in Haneda. I kept thinking if I showed some Japanese people this article, they might be offended by this writer’s perversion of Wabi-Sabi. Wabibitos are not slovenly. Please make your bed, or hire someone to do it.

I think this is just Etsy trying to pimp out some of the handmade/highly distressed "primitive" furniture by artisans who sell there, or the art school glass project vases and decor. Don't get me wrong, there are some really interesting finds on Etsy, but its surprising that a site with such a diversity of vendors definitely has a ton of items that have the exact same aesthetic. They are co-opting a term to help with marketing.

Ha ha, very true! People just love trying to appropriate a catchy name, don't they. I like the Wabi-Sabi concept, by the way. Although perfect things have their beauty, there's something about those slightly imperfect things that give them an even more special quality. To me, at any rate.
