I've had torch style floor lamps and while they do help add light, it's usually more bright at the corner where the lamp stands, so the lighting is uneven. Also, at least with the bulb currently in there, it's still not bright enough for my tastes.
I also have a ceiling fan at the center of my home office room which has a light fixture below the fan allowing the light to reflect upwards onto the ceiling. But that has a very dim bulb and it's more appropriate for relaxing or getting ready for bed at night.
What I want is bright light, kind of like full spectrum bulbs provide simulated daylight, to fill the entire room.
Should I try bulbs with white color light and higher lumens for the ceiling fan light fixture and see if that gives me enough brightness?
I've been thinking of installing 1 or 2 workshop LED lights.. the 4' strips that hang on the ceiling.. But that may look a bit weird in a bedroom/home office.
Anyone have some good suggestions, if I haven't considered it in the above already?
Honestly your best bet is to have can lights installed in your ceiling. You could install them over your work area, so they do not shine down on your bed, if that would work for you. We have lights like this all through our house. DH put 20 year LEDs in them and we won't have to change bulbs probably in our lifetimes. Ironically, there are only two badly spaced can lights in the bedroom, and I wish for more light in there all the time.
In your case, put at least 4 in the ceiling, depending on the space you need to light. If your work area is separated in the bedroom, you could put lights over your work area.
What you have now is inadequate. On either side of your bed, you need nightstands with lamps. Put in LEDs of the proper wattage. Add a lamp on your dresser as well. Add a desk lamp. Make sure you can turn on all of these individually, but the ceiling lights should be turned on with the room switch.
If you are living in an apartment, then add higher wattage, LED bulbs to your ceiling fan light. Ditch the torchieres. Buy nice lamps for your nightstands and desk and dresser. Put three way LEDs in your lamps for better light control.
Get rid of the ceiling fan and replace it with a small hanging fixture that has 4-5 candelabra bulbs. With 4 or 5 40-60w bulbs I'm sure you can vastly improve your lighting dilemma.
