It's been more than 20 years since I last moved into a new house, so this is my first time buying new furniture, etc. since Black Friday began. Is it a good time to buy furniture? If so, any places you'd recommend?
I don't really need big things, but I'm looking for smaller items like side tables, side chairs, a small chest of drawers, a kitchen table, rugs, mirrors, and maybe some decorative items.
Generally speaking the "deals" on Black Friday are best on easily compared commodities -- think brand name gadgets / electronics. There are lesser discounts of items that retailers find harder to manage in their inventory -- before we get to "furniture" think about something like running shoes -- the retailers need to have some knowledge of the various sizes, colors, and styles that are likely to be requested by customers. Having too many items that won't match the profile of likely buyers results in big headaches.
Expanding this problem to furniture, which has a broader mix of styles / configurations make it a poor candidate for good promotions targeting the sort of motivations that go along with Black Friday...

Not sure where you are, but if you have a Haverty’s, they have good quality, medium priced furniture, that is on sale now.
For places like Ethan Allen, Bassett, Pottery Barn January is a good time to buy, new styles will come out in February so they need to make room.
Start looking now and if you find something you like have the salesperson call you when they go on sale.
I buy my furniture on big holiday sales like Black Friday.
For example, West Elm has 30% off your order if you spend more than $3,000, which is really good for West Elm. CB2 usually doesnt have entire store sales unless you are a first time customer, but they have one now for 15%.
Well, Black Friday ended up being better than I thought it would. And if you're out there looking, be sure to check shipping fees even with the stores that aren't otherwise having sales. We scored ordering some things from a few places that had free shipping if you ordered today.
