I love putting all my decorations up, not so much taking them down. This year the tomtes will stay for a while but the tree and the garlands will be put away.
The house looks so dull and boring, this is the time of year paint chips start appearing, I've been known to give rooms total makeovers at this time of year. Out with the old .... in with the new !!
I rename my Christmas lights, “winter lights” and keep them up as long as I can, or at least till a crew comes to take them down. it’s dark here by 3:30 pm and I love the lights in the winter darkness.
People are tired of Christmas stuff because they start it way too early. If celebrating Christmas is a religious tradition, it should be followed accordingly.
^^^^^ This! Always! ^^^^^
Thank you! I agree wholeheartedly. If I had my druthers, nothing other than the Advent wreath would go up until Christmas Eve and the decorations would stay up until Epiphany, but alas that's not the way commercial Christmas works.
A relative of mine worked with a practicing pagan who took her tree down on Groundhog's Day (I'm assuming this is something different if you're pagan) and burned it and spread the ashes on her garden for the coming season. So even a silly holiday like Groundhog's Day has deep roots.
February 2nd is Candlemas, otherwise known as the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus and the day commemorating Mary's ritual purification after the birth of her son. It's also the day set aside to bless a church's candles. Candlemas is an adaptation of a pagan goddess holiday called Imbolc or Brigid's Day, which marks the beginning of spring.
I've started to dismantle the tree, and will have it all packed away by Friday. After the 6th I will put up my Mardi Gras wreath on the door and change the garden flag.

My Mardi Gras wreath and flag are ready! Definitely going up Jan 7th!
Get this- I had a box of Mardi Gras fun - you know, sort of nice stuff rather than the usual cheapo Mardi gras stuff. I CANNOT FIND IT. My husband "organized" the attic for me - in other words, moved everything so that I can't find anything - and I can't find it. So I actually had to order some Mardi Gras decorations. I mean, I have two HUGE bags of Mardi Gras beads and I actually ORDERED Mardi Gras beads. Who even does that?????????? Kathryn, that's who. I hang them from the trees in my front yard - LOL.
I am so ticked off that I can't find that stuff. I've torn the house apart. You don't think he...surely not...
