Would like to know what would look better with dark railing and dark wood steps? The style is Mediterranean/Spanish.

I like the white better. It would make the steps easier to see in the dark.

I like the second pic a lot. But, it might help to see a pic of the stairs you propose to paint.

The stair is not built yet but its composition is similar to this

I personally prefer a white riser with dark wood treads. But it's just personal taste, so go with whatever you like best.

Daughter has dark risers and the steps are very hard to see.

I think the second pic is stunning. I love the wood toned steps with gray risers. I think your stairway would make quite a statement painted that way. Seen against the white wall, the stairs look amazing.

I'm definitely a fan of white/trim color painted risers.

But, if you want a more traditional look for the "med/Spanish" style consider the hand painted tiles for the risers.
