I don't like the honey oak cabinets. I like the maple ones better.

I am not worried; the cabinets in my 80 year old house look very dated; they look like they were put in 80 years ago, which they were. Same with the hardwood floors, the doorway between the kitchen and dining room, the stone veneer exterior all round, and double-hung windows that go from floor to ceiling, and many more.

I think it would look weird, and more than a little pitiful, if I were to tear out all the inside of the house to try to make it look like it was built in 2018.

Amen.

Because advertisers pay these shows big bucks if they can convince people to rip out perfectly good cabinets.

Maybe it's just my personal taste, but I've always felt cherry was timeless, especially the lighter cherries. Or maybe "almost timeless" in that they will go out of favor for a short time, but then be popular again in no time at all.

Some people in this thread seem to think there's a group of evil people forcing people to renovate their houses against their will.

You know why things get trendy? Because people like them. I've never heard of a person putting in cabinets they hate just to be trendy, or tearing up all their carpet for hardwood if they hate hardwood.

Yes, companies try to create trends to get people to renovate, but people aren't going to do this work without wanting to. It's their house. If they want trendy, more power to them. Nobody is forcing you to give up your 40 year old cabinets.

lol!

Yes, you are right, some people do get personally affronted by the idea that other people like the idea of updating things, just to make them look newer or - God Forbid! - trendy.

And honestly, I think some of them have in fact convinced themselves that some people do put in decor they personally dislike just because that's what the current trend is.

And then there are those timeless concrete -and- steel kitchens.

People are nothing if not fickle.
I simply got tired of them. I feel they fit in with a certain sort if interior that I no longer have or want.

People get tired of things. They like new looks. Even the oldest extant kitchen was once new and trendy.

And I stopped watching HG-TV years ago.

Gross generalizations are seldom accurate.

I simply think golden oak is ugly and dated. I just don't like it. I prefer a softer grain and less yellow.

We're on our 3rd house with honey oak and I'm over it. I was fine with it in 1999. What I really hate is the laminate counters with the oak edges. There is no way any of this is going to change anytime soon, so I try to ignore it.
