What is the size difference of the queen and king bed. My main question is how much wider is the king verses the queen. I would really like to get the king and I think my room will handle it but my main concern is how wide it is.

Thanks!

60 x 80 versus 76 x 80, so the king is 16 inches wider.

That is exactly what I wanted to know.

I need a new mattress but really would like a king size bed (I like my own space ) so I figured, why spend money on that if I end up getting a new bed.

Ah, but there are California King and Eastern King - basically the CA king is 4 inches longer than an Eastern King and the Eastern King is about 4 inches wider than the CA King.

Wow, I am confused now with the California and Eastern .

I had heard about the California King, wasn't sure what the difference was but I never heard of the Eastern King.

Eastern King is the standard King. That is, when you hear "King" by itself, its eastern king. California King is always called California King.

also -- if you had an old KING sized waterbed frame that is a Cal.King.
We have one.

Back in the late 80's early 90's when water beds were all the rave .... we got our bed. I was pregnant and could not get a good nights sleep -- then we got the bed and i could sleep again....

BUT DH has loved that headboard, so we've kept it all these years..... when our mattress sprung a leak, we needed a mattress pretty quick ... and found the Cal.King fits inside that 'hole'

so, king sized water beds are Cal. kings. which is your 72x84
where obviously regular king bedding does not fit properly.... not even bed spreads. [sheets would be obvious since it's fitted] and not easy to find locally.

probably more than you wanted to know.... but that's my experience.
