We are planning on converting our "cat room" in to the baby room and currently we have a bay window where we put a love seat couch. We are getting rid of the couch and we are thinking about buying a cubby storage bench to put in its place. Having a hard time finding a bench that would fit so was considering have a bench with cabinets custom installed. The space is 10 feet wide. Do you know around how much this would cost? Are we better off sticking with buying a bench?
It depends where you are. In Chicago I would expect to pay $3000 to $5000 depending on what features you want. Of course, that's my company, which services pretty high end clients (who are likely to use fabric that's $150 - $200 a yard on it). That would be for a built in, upholstered piece with drawers or whatever.
A "bench" or chest/locker would be a moveable object.
But if you made it a window seat that would be something permanent. You could have cabinet doors on the front face for access; or flip tops to access the space.
Going the custom route will give you the opportunity to specify exactly what dimensions and features you want. Then you could have an upholstered pad made for it along with pillows to complete the look.
Yea definitely not looking for the most high end built-in. Looking for something more simple. If it comes to 3k-5k then definitely would not be able to go down that route.
