I knew I wouldn't use the extra jets so I tried to find one with as few of them as possible. I just wanted the showerhead and the handheld, and I wanted it to look really cool.
Depending on where you live, if you're space above the shower is the open attic, I'd make double sure that all water lines are properly insulated. Nothing like a busted pipe in January to ruin your Monday morning. I'd prefer all water lines on interior walls or coming up from the floor, not exterior walls or exposed to open non-hvac areas such as the attic.
We have a ridiculously large shower that has two rain shower heads, 4 body sprays and a handheld sprayer. I have never used the body sprays and I only use the handheld part for rinsing the glass after I clean it. So, for me, I'd go ahead and get a rain shower head if you want one. If you don't like them, then forget it.
We put a ceiling rain shower head in one of our bathrooms we went with one that is flush to the ceiling so it doesn’t hang down at all. Totally love it BUT I consider it a fluff feature over functional feature and just additional water source. We have a powerful handheld on a slider bar which doubles as a traditional shower head. It’s not our primary showering bathroom and a small space so it worked well.
I would very highly suggest that you add additional shower head regardless if it’s a primary or secondary shower. Then it’s a matter of if you feel cost is justified for a fluff feature. Our rainhead was a bit over $1200 for the 10” model.
My husband is a plumber and he always explains it to people like this “think of it as a light rain and don’t have expectations that it will be like downpour”.
That would be a big no for me. I need a good hard spray of water to rinse my hair, so a rain shower head wouldn’t work.
