Just bought a new house and I'm decorating slowly. I just got the chairs I ordered for the reading nook. I'm worried it looks crowded. It doesnt feel crowded though. Opinions?

1 pic is the reading area
2 pic is opposite the reading area

It's a very large long room

Yes, the chairs are a bit large for the space, but if you are comfortable in the space, that’s the main thing. You know you need some lamps, right?

Your sofa is way big too, but it fits, and if it suits your purposes, so be it.

The sofa looks very large and it is but it doesnt feel as big in the room as it looks. And we have 9 children. So....extra seating always helps haha. Yeah I haven't done the small decorating yet. Artwork lamps rugs and such. Just a few things. I was focusing on furniture. I want some color I think

Can the Billy bookcases flank the windows? Have the chairs in front of the bookcases to allow some more room between them...

The sofa- "where do I begin...?"

If you can't move the bookcases some place else, can you put in a small glass table in place of the one there? The glass will lighten up the heaviness to a degree, more of an optical illusion, but it will help provided it is a small scale table.

The three pieces of furniture all look too big for the room, but only you know the application and what your needs are. Much good luck decorating.

The bookshelves live there, it's the reading are aka my poor substitute for not having a library and they dont fit beside the windows. Though a smaller table that's lighter may help.

I've attached other angles of the couch because it looks like the room is much narrower in the original picture. There is actually quite a bit of space all around.

That is what I would have suggested but since you say they won't fit on the window wall I'm a little stumped. Maybe a nice rug in that area to anchor the seating. Maybe pull the large sectional away from the window wall towards the fireplace with one of the bookshelves by the window?

Actually put both bookshelves behind the couch on the window wall. Keep the floor lamp there also.

It looks super cozy to me, which I like. I'd just add a reading lamp behind each chair of some sort - a floor lamp maybe.

All of your seating areas need ottomans, too.

Everyone needs somewhere to put their feet up, to have good lighting, to have somewhere to put down their drink without worrying about spilling it, and somewhere to put their book or phone or plate of food, etc.

Your seating looks really comfy. You just need to add a few more things to make it totally functional, in my opinion.

Yes to all of the above. I get that you need the seating.

Everything is sort of brown though.

Yeah the pics came out weird. Everything except the floor and little table are shades of grey. I think the lights are yellow and we need white.
