I leave the "not scary" Halloween items, three un-carved pumpkins outside. After Halloween, I change to a Harvest wreath that I made. I have a Fall themed table cloth, and I set the table with Fiestaware in Autumnal colors, and a bouquet of fresh all flowers. The table cloth was my mother's from the 70s. It's a gold, brown, dark green and orange paisley. I use a runner, that picks up one of the colors in the table cloth.

No outdoor lights or anything. Candle light at the table.

I noticed there is a neighbor that still has orange lights in the courtyard and portal. Perhaps they are being retained for Thanksgiving.

Our November days in the Appalachian mountains vary a lot. We get the blue sky days and the gray days - sometimes both on the same day. Our peak leaf color is usually anywhere from the last week in October to the first week in November. It was late this year. Other locations in the mountains might peak in the middle to end of October.

I'd just prefer Thanksgiving in October when it's more reliably sunny and pleasant for more people. Think of how much better the photos would be! Families could even eat Thanksgiving outdoors in many places or at least go for walks. I think it would change the whole atmosphere of the holiday for the better.
Well, everyone is different that's for sure. There's no right or wrong about this but personally I love Halloween. It is one of my very favorite holidays! And like I said, down here what you are describing works great in November. And finally, lots of people love Halloween everywhere so there's that.

I love fall and the holiday season!

Okay, let's compromise.

We'll move Thanksgiving to the first weekend in November.

I love Fall Decorations!! My family just hosted a "friendsthanksgiving" I wasn't sure how it would work having so many people. I knew I wanted us all sitting though enjoying each others company. Here's a photo of my big crazy table from last weekend.

I have a wreath that works well for autumn, and I buy pots of mums for the front walk, but I do not decorate for specifically for Thanksgiving. I don't put out anything special for Halloween (although I did when the kids were young), New Years, or Easter either. I do decorate for Christmas, although not every year. It depends on our holiday travel plans.
