My mom and sister are stuck with big beautiful entertainment centers made for old analog CRT TVs. Because of this they don’t fit the average HDTV. the HDTVscreens that fit have huge gaps at the top and the screen is too small for most living rooms. When new they were among the top of the line in design, able to accept a 36” tv. They tried to sell them but no one would buy them. Have people been able to sell or repurpose these old style entertainment centers?

We're in northern NJ and we could not even give ours away. It was in great condition too. I ended up just taking it to the dump.

Paid about $700 for it back in '93.

My wife said there were a few hundred on Craigslist.

Makes me glad my last one was a cheap model from Walmart. It’s at my neighbor’s house now. My mom’s is so big it comes in two pieces and has lighted top shelves. To take it to the dump I’d have to take it apart piece by piece.probably would use the trash pick-up service.

We have a beautiful oak one. It's a gorgeous piece of furniture, so we decided to move it to a different room and repurpose it.

We turned it into more of a storage/display cabinet by puttin some carved doors over the large TV area. Voila, we now have a place to stash blankets and other bulky linens (which is good, because our linen closet isn't that big).

By the way, the doors were really easy to find. We were going to make them, but then we went to the local Habitat Restore, and found exactly what we needed for less than it would have cost to make them. They had several dozen large cabinets with doors. All shapes and sizes. We found one that fit our needs, bought the whole unit for $50, took off the doors, and donated the rest of the unit back to Restore.

We added some shelves and turned ours into a storage cabinet for off season bedding, beach towels, table cloths etc. I moved it to a 'hobby room' where it is out of the way.
The consignment people had 4 that they said they were 'stuck with' and wouldn't give ours a look.

Funny you bring this up because we have an old china cabinet that is pretty useless that I am just staring to repurpose as a bar.

Google repurpose tv cabinet and see if there are any ideas that look useful. And since it comes in two pieces, consider that you can use each piece for different things, too.

OP, as others have said, those old entertainment centers/armoires are GREAT for repurposing!

I bought a large black armoire for a 36" tube TV back in 2003 (excuse all the dust! ) ...

I loved it (still do, actually) and it worked GREAT for that TV. Once I got rid of the TV (100 lbs. of dead weight carrying down the stairs ), I realized I could still use the armoire for my NEW 36" TV -- all I had to do was add shelves ...

The shelf is very very simple, just a 1x10 or 1x12 (can't remember) cut to size and nailed together. (I still need to paint it black and add another divider between the 2nd and 3rd baskets ... someday!) It works great, especially because it doesn't waste any space (well, except for the space behind the new TV) AND it raised the new TV to a better viewing height when I am in bed.

I am in the midst of remodeling my kitchen and I ALMOST repurposed it like this one:

Alas, I just couldn't find a good place for it in the space. But I LOVE what they did with it!

can't remember where ours ended up but my best guess is the burn pit.
