Oh my gosh, see I've always heard that painting a ceiling dark makes it appear to soar but I haven't really SEEN that done - that looks great!!!!!!!

Thank you . I'm so glad I went scouting for pics online before I chose paint colors. I NEVER would have thought about doing a dark ceiling. It's also made me accept the fact that the beautiful wood trim and crown molding had been painted...well, I guess I'm still a little bitter about it lol!

I like the Ecru color on the SW page for your wall color - something along those lines could look nice as the ceiling color

I was looking at possibly doing it SW China Doll or Kilim beige but in a north facing room would it come across "dirty" with the lack of natural lights would it appear the ceiling is dingy being it isn't a huge contrast color. IDK...I do like the Ecru too.

I've always painted all of my ceilings flat white.

Unless you have ceilings well above today's standard of 8 feet, any colour other than white will 'lower' your ceiling.

I'm pretty sure there are apps which can show you how colours will look

You would be surprised. If the trim is a cool white, then use a warmish white - it will absolutely make the trim pop. I've done it.
