Personally, I would not want a washer and dryer where I do food prep. They general a lot of dust that could get into your food and on dishes and cookware. And conversely, you could end up with food debris in your clean laundry or have to do a LOT of extra cleaning. Surely I'm not the only one who routinely drops stuff when I transfer it from the washer to the dryer? Damp socks pick up any crumb within a 100 foot radius, I think! lol!
While I'm a fan of w/d in a more convenient spot than a basement, I'd be trying to figure out if I had any other options than the kitchen.
I disagree. Washer and dryer in the kitchen is very popular in Europe. They seem to have no problem with that, I don't have either.
OP did you check the "tinyurl" links I posted for ideas?
I have one in my kitchen (condo in Berlin - just renovated, work in progress) and it's there where I wanted it to be. Some people install it in the bathroom if they find a good spot for it.

I disagree. My single countertop is both too low and too shallow to install a washer/dryer underneath, plus I wouldn't want to eliminate any more of the original cabinets than are already gone (a double cabinet was removed for the dishwasher). I did, however, have a good-sized space on the other side of the kitchen adjacent to the stove, but about 18" away from it, so I installed a stackable washer/dryer unit there. There is a small counter next to it that is designed as a surface for the adjacent small room, but I can use that to pile clothes on when pulling them from the dryer if necessary. I keep the lint filter scrupulously clean and never have a problem with lint in my food or food in my laundry - I don't know why I would either. I vacuum my floors every day and mop the kitchen three times a week since I have pets and feed them there.
I love the idea of the washer in the kitchen, I have a portable, as I am an apartment dweller. So easy for me, as original poster stated, cooking and laundry.
however, JMO, in regards to the size of the washer, I would get one that fits regular wash loads, and not worry if a comforter can fit in it, thus having to get a larger machine, thus changing the plan of the kitchen.
comforters are washed once a year? I have 2 comforters, summer and winter. they are washed when they go on the bed, (we dont lay on them), and taken to the laundromat in the giant machines, nice and easy.....again, JMO....once / twice a year, to me, isnt a big deal to take to the laundromat...but I know others will disagree.....

I have two dogs - I tend to wash my top blankets quite a bit. I don't really have a comforter, just a bunch of heavy blankets. I guess I would probably go with a duvet as elnina suggested. Gonna have to go to the store and see how the different models compare.

Same deal here with my cats. I have a whole bunch of lightweight plush blankets that get washed twice a week. My heavier decorative quilts that are covered by the blankets get washed at the nearby laundromat.
OK, then you have to have a washer fits them, totally agree with that.
I actually just did my summer comforter in the laundromat this past monday, as i have no life...well, i have a life, just not the one i want. .....
and hung it on the line it was a good drying day.
i think one psoter did say, bring the blanket with you to see it it fits, thats a great idea, id never of thought of that.
