I am furnishing a loft space. It will initially be used by teenagers, no mater what we get we will be purchasing mostly second hand furnishings. With that said we are not too concerned about wear and tear.

We have enough room to fit a standard sofa and a love seat and chair. From a practical standpoint, are we better off with using individual chairs, which can be moved around. Or just get the stationary sofa and love seat? Or do we go with a sectional sofa?

I am leaning towards just using chairs because they are easier to get up the stairs.

Any thoughts / opinions?

Thanks

Yes, that would be my choice because teens love to lounge around and they could be put together while that fad was in force but then moved apart for more standard seating.

Meh, they're teenagers. They're young and springy, just get what's cheapest, easiest to schlep upstairs, and will withstand hard usage the best. Put down some carpet remnants and they'll end up lying on the floor most of the time anyway.

Separate lounge chairs give a person their own space. Sofas mean the person in the center has nowhere to cuddle up, except with the person next to them. As an adult I would be more comfortable inviting friends to hangout if there were comfy chairs. Teens would likely be the same way.

A sofa does one thing that chairs can't do - it provides a place for laying down and catching a nap. Yes, you can sleep in a chair, but not as comfortably.

I'd drop idea of the loveseat though.

Teenagers do not sit on chairs. Nature makes them fold and lounge like cats. Sofa or sectional please.

Umm, when I was a teenager and we were laying down on a couch, we weren't napping. . .

Teenagers don't sit on chairs the way adults do, they are perfectly capable of folding and lounging on chairs too.
Frankly as an adult I prefer lounging on a chair too, hooking a leg or two over the arm is quite comfy, sharing a space with a couple of other people on a sofa, not so much (unless we already have a close relationship)
