Agreed. I've never kept one out in the open. I also prefer small trash cans instead of large cans - i dont want to keep garbage inside the house for long. We have one bin in a cabinet on one side of the sink for trash and another bin in a cabinet on the other side for recycling.

Some of us have small, galley kitchens and can't sacrifice a cabinet for a trash can. I have a covered trash can out in the open.

I wasn't meaning any personal offense. More just my personal preference. I am never in someone else's home judging them for their trash can. But in my own house I do prefer it to be tucked away.

I have a very small kitchen which is precisely why I put my trash can in the cabinet under the sink. I can't/won't sacrifice floor space for it. Besides the cabinet under the sink has always been for cleaning supplies and is not anywhere I'd put cooking supplies, or whatever else people put there.

I lucked out in my current apartment as there's a very narrow cabinet that just fits my trash can. I also picked up this nifty trick to store cleaning supplies (see attached) I'm using a curtain tension rod that I already had. A heavier one would be sturdier.

In our just-moved-here home we installed double trash bin inside cabinet near sink but not under (rev-a-shelf), after owning many homes over 30 years. We ARE so fancy now.

We never had a cabinet trash container could fit in, previous kitchen cabs had half-shelves inside so not possible.
Am lucky husband is handy and can read directions to install, took an hour each one.

Am jealous of SIL having deep pull out drawers in her new kitchen. Not happening for me.

Under my sink. The cabinet has a double door. Trash can goes on the left side and cleaning stuff goes on the right side. The broom and dust pan are hanging in the back mudroom.

Rev-a-shelf has an attachment that will convert the average swing out cabinet door to a pull out door for the trash can.
