Curious how those things have done. If you have one have there been any repair problems or glitches so far? How much did you pay for it?

Appreciate the feedback.

We installed a Takagi tankless water heater in our last house. We paid about 1200$ for the unit and I forget what installation cost, but it was mounted outside the house which freed up some more space for us in the kitchen.
Never had a problem with it, loved it, and are planning on installing one in our current home...when $$ magically falls from the sky, or we save up enough!
Seriously depends on the make and model and I would aim to get info from a plumbing supply place rather than a big box home improvement store (those HD & Lowe's folks are clueless about these units).
Besides, there are many different mroe efficient brands of tankless that are not available in a big box store anyway, and you'd be better off getting the info from people who are actually plumbers with experience with lots of tankless units ...
If you are in Northern California you'll be in great shape as there are many more people experienced with these units...If not, then you'll have to search harder I guess.
You should also check into, and post in the Green Living forum, I think I've seen a thread or two about this very subject. Good luck.

We had two different tankless hot water systems in previous homes and wish we had one now. Both were whole-house units as a part of our oil-fired furnaces (one steam heat and the other forced hot water). I wish I knew the brand names (one might have been Heil), but both were efficient and never gave us any problems at all.

I agree with bellalunatic that you should seek info from plumbers and HVAC suppliers rather than big box stores.

We had a place with flash-heated showers and we LOVED it. We can hardly wait to locate and purchase this for our new home. Talk about a savings, too...They were electric, but they instaneously heated (flash heated) our shower water and we could have showered for months and it never "ran out". But when its off...its off. Incredible system, popular in Europe, highly recommend it but have no clue where to find it or what it costs!

My experience is that tankless units have less pressure. Otherwise the water really gets hot fast!

I don't understand how water pressure and tankless have anything to do with one another...
the installation of our tankless did not affect the pressure at all.

When our current water heater dies, we want to replace it with one of these. The thought of super long hot showers... ahhhhhh

Do any of you have electric tankless heaters? We're looking into upgrading to this, we don't have the option for non-electric.

I'd be interested in this as well. Our water heater is running on borrowed time, and I'd like to check into electric tankless heaters.
