I'm talking about the gray color and then you throw in the little colored specs. We are thinking of doing it and am wondering if you paid someone to do it (professionals)or just did it yourself (HD/Lowes) and any tips and prices either way? Thanks
If it isn't new it should be diamond etched if you want it to last for prep. Some will say muriatic acid and pressure washer but if there are any stains from oil and what not they need to be taken off and this is typically done by shaving off the top until you have a nice clean place to work.
That's been my experience. The stains/paints never stick to where oil or gas soaked into it unless removed. Before applying you should be able to put water on the surface and it soak in not bead up. It should also be spotless like mopping until the water stays clean then completely dried. Better to over do it than regret doing it IMO.
I just wanted to see if anyone has done it themselves and if they can offer any tips. I've seen it before at home shows and its gorgeous!
I wouldn't compare a DIY job to the ones professionally done for shows. If you do it yourself, it may look decent but depending on the amount of traffic in your garage, it may not last. I helped paint a family member's garage floor and it looked decent and lasted a 3-4 years before it peeled under the hot tires. As for the savings, it's $40x2 for 2 kits enough to cover a 2 car garage. Getting it professionally done may have cost anywhere from $500-1K. If you have the money, get it done right by the pros but if you're tight on budget, doing it yourself is fine if done right but don't expect it to last forever.
We just painted the floor, new construction with the tan and decorative flakes. It was not hard to do. My husband and I both did it, and makes for an easier time that way. I did the edging with a paint brush and the flakes, and my husband did the rollering. Looks great.
