That sure looks like the place where your refrigerator is supposed to go.

Where is the fridge?

Thanks to everyone for their input - much appreciated.

We're now leaning towards knocking down half the wall - and installing a breakfast bar:

Some additional pics to fill in the blanks; wall-in-question is to the left of sliding glass door:

Sorry-
That would look like crap! Plus, it would really serve no purpose.

Either leave it alone, or take it completely out- with the other things I mentioned in my initial post.

I think that is a fantastic idea.
Perfect for that space, in my opinion.
WAY better than my barn door idea. lol.

That's a really nice looking kitchen and I love all of the windows and the courtyard outside of the sliding glass door.

I like the half wall idea as well.

I'd say "Get rid of the wall!"

But you live there, not me. So, do what you want.

I got rid of a couple walls in my dump, (BOTH were load bearing.)

Ended up using **Parallam** for support. Been holding both spans now for 20+ years.

One is 16 feet and the other is about the same.

Got my fingers crossed...

Your kitchen is not shaped like the one in the first photo. So I don't think it would look good at all, it would block the flow and natural light (which are your home's strengths). Your kitchen is a galley kitchen, long and narrow.

If you don't like the thought of removing the wall entirely, go for the full length glass divider doors that I linked to in my previous post. They divide a room without interrupting flow and light. Not to mention that half wall is kinda dated and the breakfast bar really serves no purpose. You'd be staring straight ahead into the dining space. I'd also go with the a table where that pantry/desk is (which is the intended use for the space) vs. a breakfast bar.

Oh, I'd take that wall out, too.

I also dislike "appliance garages". Just unnecessary cabinets taking up more real estate than the appliances. Also visually blocking space.

I just read that the "open" concept is on its way out. However, I would remove that wall...your space would look bigger and flow nicely. A little late to the conversation here, you've probably already done what you're going to do.
