agree that fabric shades are impractical for reasons already stated: mold, wet, dust

also the wind would knock them over.

i like to walk in the evening where i live and look at all the different ways people decorate and furnish their decks. My preference for outdoor lighting is something like this:

I like those china ball lights too, but they are especially vulnerable to moisture and dust. I only bring them outdoors on special occasions and take them down the next day. They don't last.

the ones made of nylon are sturdier. i see people have them out for months at a time where i live.
