So basically, if we want a color other than white - we will have to get them professionally installed? Lowe's will only cut if you pick white?

yep, they are very easy to install, however, when you have 40+ windows and some nearly 15' in the air, it was worth it for us to just pay the guy so we don't have deal with the aggravation...

But if you have a single story home, they are very easy to install and should take about 10 minutes each, as previously stated... GOODLUCK!!

Home Depot is having a sale on Bali Blinds now - 10% off and the sale ends Feb 28. I too just bought some stock blinds from HD - the alabaster (off white) faux and the basswood that they have in stock.

FYI (I'm a Decorator) if you have a wide window, it would be better to try to put two smaller blinds in the window instead of one large one. It's easier on the mechanisms - faux wood is much heavier then real wood. I think Lowes has the same blinds as HD and yes they are very easy to install - just tell your hubby to hang them and up they go!

Question What Blinds on "Wall of Windows"?

I've got a 2-story family room with a big, beautiful wall of windows that will need some type of blinds on them if its going to be a usable room to watch TV in anytime from 3pm to sunset.

Its a beautiful view and I don't want to block the windows I paid big $ for ... so what do most people do with a two story family room wall-of-windows for sun control? (I'm more worried about sun control than privacy at this point with those windows)

I'm considering leaving them open and dealing with the sun glare and lack of privacy/insulation - but am hoping someone has a good suggestion that I haven't thought of yet.

Thanks

Graber has a product called "Light Weaves Solar Shades" that is intended for exactly that. It's similar to a roller shade but the fabric filters and diffuses light while still maintaining the view to outside.

They minimize glare in your room, which helps protect your furniture and carpets from fading and they reduce the heat that comes in the room keeping the room cooler.

They don't provide privacy so you will have to get additional window drapery if that is a concern. You also have a choice of valances which dress them up a bit.

These treatments are idea for windows with a great view but have a lot of glare. I hope they work out for you!!!
