Hi everyone, I am stuck on this!

Dark Cherry furniture
Cream carpet--no changing that for a long time
Bedding is dark burgundy with gold patterns--also no changing that anytime soon, only a year old.
Rectangle room, two normal sized windows, vaulted ceiling.

Walls are currently boring builder's cream...we are second owners and the first owners did no painting in the couple years they were here.

I am sick of the same color everywhere, but what goes with this? No pink, my husband would die! Ideas, anyone? Thanks!

Default Color suggestion

The color i have in mind with your dark cherry furniture is attached in the picture here.

Sell your old cream carpet, get some nice patterned one in dark brown or maroon or beige color.
Get some window treatment for the windows. try faux wood or cellular blinds for your windows. If you like curtains go for sheer ones.

A pale to medium gold would bring out the gold in your bedding.

check out the benjamin moore paint website. you can look at a look of paint colors and change them to suit a variety of room pictures. I would suggest the goldfinch color for what you have described.

Thanks everyone! I always go for the same old same old, so wanted some other opinions. I have so many rooms to paint I just got overwhelmed! My old house was half this size and we didn't paint half of it, so this is a big job for us...but I'm looking forward to getting rid of the boring cream everywhere.

Take the gold from the bedspread...go darker or lighter if you want. It's only paint, so if you don't like it you can change it later. I soooo hate the "beige-ing of America". HGTV tells us neutral is good, but it ISN'T.

How about a heather mauve? or heather blue? these colors are soothing and conducive to relaxing! do you know what I mean by "heather"-- like a dusty mauve or blue? dark enuogh, but not too dark. and not pastel-ey either!

I would go with the gold because if you introduce too many colors they will be competing with your burgandy spread. You want something complimentary - not clashing. I would NOT do blue or mauve. Your spread already has gold in it, so a gold on your walls will complement the colors you already have in there.

I agree 100% with gold - stay in the warm tones - the carpet is truly going to be the problem....I'd buy a large area rug and cover as much of that carpet as I could - a rug that has a black background with golds, sages and burgundy in it -even touches of blue....but please don't paint the walls blue (please).

Thanks everyone! I think the gold is a great idea...will be looking at color samples soon to see what's out there. I wish we could replace the carpet, but it's practically brand new with no problems, and I'm on of those people who hate to spend money replacing something that isn't broken! I have too many other things to spend my money on right now...like the idea for the rugs. Great stuff!
