Meaning, it's not going to be as expensive as you seem to think. She'll be doing a smaller kitchen with the first cabinet style, not the exact layout in the first picture.

Exactly.

Ah- I made my comment about how fresh/dated the kitchen would look based on the OP's posted pics. My comment about cost/possibly eclipsing the finish level of the rest of the house was made in regard to Penn's posted photos.

I should have worded that in a clearer manner instead of letting them run together.

Penn- can you disclose what those kitchens cost? Ones similar to that first one tend to be a pretty penny in my area. It is not typcally my style but that is an exceedingly well executed kitchen and I really like how everything was trimmed/the finish-hardware selections/etc.

I said only 3-5 years because I think that the frosted glass will look dated pretty quick and also the cabs. in the picture look prety IKEA cheap to me, and so i figure they look like they'll fall apart within years!
I like the style overall of the first pic and I think that they general concept is great, but the cheap look of the cabs. is the issue for me.

really? why do you think they look cheap? is it the shaker style of the door front? or maybe it is the overall look, without a backsplash?
this is interesting to me...

I saved those pictures from some of the design blogs that I visit. Of the four pictures, the second one is probably the most "affordable." I put that in quotations because affordability is a relative term.

The other three are high end professionally designed spaces. The third kitchen was designed by Victoria Hagen and it definitely came at a cost. I have to say the biggest expenditures in those spaces are the countertop surfaces and the appliances. Not everyone needs a $6500+ refrigerator or a $9500 range.

The key is to get your inspiration from the high end spaces and find the materials that fit into your budget.
