We have to prepare for the relatives next month and need another bedroom. We have a large living room that has about a 5 foot wide open (no door) walkspace on one side and another average door size open walk space the connects to the kitchen
Are there any low cost retractable doors that can be put in these areas to create another bedroom? I was thinking something like those doors that retract or fold that are in RV's or the ones that used to be in old hotels. Maybe attach on one side of the door opening and can be attached or pulled to the other side.
Any other ideas to give the room a sense of privacy would be great. Cloth or shower curtain like ideas are good but these might not give the sense of privacy.
I think shoji screens would be enough to give a sense of privacy. I was in a house once where I envisioned them putting up vertical blinds to close off a space and make it more private.
I've only got 2 relatives where company gets their own bedroom. Most places we sleep on a hideabed or on a blow up air mattress wherever there's enough room for it. Do they really expect their own room?
Do you have a enough room anywhere else for a blow up mattress? Do you have kids with their own rooms?????Could one of the kids sleep on the couch or in a sleeping bag on the floor and the company have their room?
For the small doorway, use one of the springloaded tension rods & hang a nice curtain there. Most tension showercurtain rods expand to 5' or a bit more, so you could put matching curtains/draperies in the wide doorway. You can get regular tension rods that go to 5' also, but shower curtain rods are much sturdier.
How about a folding screen or 2 for the large doorway?
Is there any logical way to re-arrange the furniture that would also help provide more privacy? For example, instead of having the sofa (if it's a hidabed & that's where they're sleeping) centered facing the large walkway, place it on a sidewall where it can't be seen from the large doorway as easily.
thank you all for your help. I think accordion doors would be a good idea. They seem rather expensive. I have tomorrow off so I will have some time to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and think about this. It would be great to not have to spend that much money for something that looks great. Thanks again.
