I love that color combo. Had a kitchen with dark blue tile and counters, so painted the walls light pastel yellow and was beautiful. And is a nice Old Mexico look, especially if pottery is also part of the decor.

I teach art (drawing) and have for decades. The color wheel is interesting because what you're asking about is basically a "color opposite." Color opposites, actually are complementary, even though they may not seem that way initially. That site above gives a basic overview.

As others have said, take your samples and overlay them. However, small samples can be misleading, so kind of work around the color wheel, since it's already a known factor.

And about the Mexican tile/pottery look -- you're right -- that's always a striking combination!

I took a look at the color wheels, I guess they aren't that confusing. I really like the Mexican look. Now I just have to convince my husband that this is what we want! Thanks for all of your input.

I think blue and yellow would look fabulous. Do you have a small piece of your carpet left over that you could take to the paint store with you? You can hold it up to the paint chips.

Good luck!

We did a yellow/blue room for my daughter when she was younger and it looked great. We just repainted her big girl room in a wonderful light yellow. The color sounds awful, but it's so pretty, it's Behr paint, called Garlic Clove. It's just the perfect shade of pale yellow, not bright, not too green or too peachy. Good luck to ya!!!

I think it looks great too. I think of it as very country.

The yellow started in my office. I need a sunny cheery place to work. Then it "invaded" the rest of the house. Recently it moved to a neighbor's house.

Most paint stores offer sample size containers; about a cup. This gives you an inexpensive way to try colors.
