As I have mentioned in another post we are doing some cosmetic improvements to a 15yo beach house. I plan to change out all the kitchen cabinet knobs, door knobs throughout the house, lighting fixtures and ceiling fans.
I have installed SS appliances and plan to use SS knobs, lighting and faucet in the kitchen. the other two baths are chrome and will not be changed at this point. My question is do I need to stay with SS door knobs, and light fixtures throughout the rest of the house? I really like the darker finishes better like oil rubbed froze or matte black however if it is going to look odd I can stick with SS. Also do any of these finished take the salty air better than the others?
I don't think you need to make everything matchy matchy.
Unless it is a super contemporary modern house where these details are the bulk of the eye candy.
We have a 1902 home and on the first floor, I can think off the top of my head we've got a mix of brushed nickel lighting in the living room, oil rubbed bronze and satin nickel in the dining room, copper, oil rubbed bronze and vintage bronze in the kitchen. Satin nickel and bad fake oil rubbed bronze in the bathroom...I am in the process of slowly changing the fixtures out from that fake bronze that was in here in the bathroom when we bought the place 6 years ago.
All of our original door handle hardware is old patina brass.
Even in that bathroom I thought that the mix would be blinding, but surprisingly it's not, although it bugs me because I want to get it all the same in there as it is a small space and primarily white with metal accents....
I think different metals in different rooms is fine. It's just a matter of how you do it.
