The Unipuker is officially Five after the color grey his coat is and the tv show Babylon 5. Oddly enough, the puking might have saved his life. We used to feed him those pouch soft foods, and then he had a bad round of puking and we switched away from his old food. Shortly afterward, his old favorite food was on the recall list for the whole melamine poisoning fiasco, but his new, allegedly easier to digest food was not melamine-tainted.

Plus, it's far easier to get seasonal allergens up from solid surface than from carpet. If we didn't want (engineered) hardwoods, we'd be putting down something like travertine tile during the renno.

Cat vomit, is going to eventually compromise the finish and possibly delaminate the edge of engineered, if the vomit stays and gets down into the seams. Same with cat urine.

Carpet actually does hold allergens trapping them until you vacuum. The static properties of the carpet holds it all until vacuumed.

Hard surfaces on the other hand, have those sitting on the surface, and unless your cleaning and wiping 24 hours a day, will be there as you casually walk by.
As you walk, the dust and allergens get stirred up and become airborne.

I guarantee, you will be cleaning the wood, more frequently than you vacuumed. It will actually be a mental victory, more than an actual victory, over your allergies.

Placebo effect or no, getting rid of the carpet in the bedroom seems to have reduced the usual impact of seasonal allergies for us.

You would have better luck, cleaning or replacing your HVAC ducting.

That is where the majority of all allergens are.
