Our new house has a living room that's in the lower level of a split entry. There are three windows and French doors, but the window are single size - no bay or anything.
Looking for some ideas on what to use for window treatments for the single ones.. I was thinking fauz wooden blinds.. Not sure I want curtains as they are not long ... or perhaps cloth shades.. the nice looking kind
Here are both sides of the living room (it's long and narrow). The third window is to the left of the fireplace (as you look at it in the first picture).
Wall colors will be choc. brown on the bottom and beige/sand on the top, if that helps.
All I can tell you about the wooden blinds idea is that I got some in a bedroom once and did not like how much they darkened the room. Even when they are open, they obscured a lot of light.
From the pictures it doesn't look as if you have a privacy issue? Do you really need anything on them? what style is the living room going to be?
What I would probably do is get a soft roman shade in the same color as the beige wall and mount them above the window, so when they are up, the whole window is exposed.

Excellent advice! It's a small room so you don't want to break up the wall space with different colors. Plus, the windows are very small, not something you want to draw attention. And the room is dark due to lack of natural light so it's important to have a way to keep the windows fully exposed when not needing privacy. I wouldn't put anything on the windows of the french doors.

Great ideas - I love roman shades, too.. and hanging above the window is genius. There's no real privacy issues concerning neighbors, but the lower level needs something as it's .. well, a low level

Great question. the previous owners had a larger than life woodstove, which we axed (I grew up with a woodstove, my husband and I are way lower maintenance than that). We might consider a pellet stove... but the brick is old dusty and full of spiders , not to mention I don't know the condition of the chimney, so it will take time, cleaning and thought to figure out what we want to do.
Definitely roman shades or blinds, not curtains. If you can match the color of your shade/blinds to the wall color, then the treatments tend to "blend" in. Also, definitely mount the shades or blinds above the window, so that when they're drawn open, you take advantge of all the light the windows offer. Good luck!
i would definitely look into the roman shades too. They would really soften the wall, and you can still provide the privacy you may want.
