I think, as with many things, you pay for convenience.
I've found that you either get poorer quality in the "cheap" BIAB kits, or you pay out the whazoo.
I find that I get better deals and higher quality when I shop for the separate components. I tend to favor the off-price retailers for bedding (TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Tuesday Morning).
Sorry to be a downer. Perhaps someone else will chime in with a killer-deal?
I just shop until I find something that jumps out at me. Found a great bed in bag comforter set with extra decorative pillows and sheets, as well as a matching quilt for cheap, when it was clearanced out at Boston. I like to see it in person.
The quality of bed in a bag stuff is really not good, The sheets are generally very stiff, not soft at all. Keep your eye on the clearance sections and you can find great deals on very good sheets. I have had very good luck with sheets from Target and KMart actually. Target has some very nice bamboo sheets that are SUPER soft and very reasonably priced. I also agree with Overstocks. I just got my son bedding for college next year-400 thread count sheets, fake-down comforter, fleece blanket and memory foam mattress topper for $100 including shipping.
I have also learned NOT to get matching sheets for my bedding. I generally just get off white sheets because I can change bedding if I want-I usually do in the summer/winter. It makes laundry easier and I can then use that bedding on most of the beds in the house.
I would suggest checking out the jcpenney website. they often have great sales. they have a very wide variety and price range of bedding. also, you might even look at sams club if you are a member. I was browsing the last time i was there and they had a nice, though limited, selection. But, over the past 10 years, my first place to look is the jcpenney website!
Thanks for the great suggestions and sources. I think it is smart to see/feel the bedding in person.
I purchased some all-cotton, high thread count sheets on line and they turned out to be not so soft. Just bought some long fiber Egyptian cotton sheets a K-Mart that were less money, lower thread count but much silkier to the touch.
With summer, I can take my time and buy comforters later on in the year. Sheets work fine for summertime coverlets...
I never had good luck with bed in the bag bargains. The comforters fell apart after one wash and I agree with the others, the sheets are horrible.
I am a big IKEA fan so if there is one by you, check them out. They sell inexpensive comforters and then have a variety of duvet covers. I bought an adorable floral duvet/shams for my spare bedroom. It was 29 dollars (double bed size) and the comforter was 19 dollars. Its light weight but works fine since our second story is usually warm in the winter anyway. Everyone that sees it compliments me on it.
I have also had good luck with Burlington Coat Factory (they have a large home section). I bought my son a comforter/sham set by Ralph Lauren there for 40 dollars, double bed.

Wow! That's an amazing price...I will check out Burlington Coat Factory. Thank you.
